Continuing the theme begun on Tuesday of looking into the value of repetition as used by Charles Dickens, I created the following.
When
When Jack starts nippin’ at yer knees,
when the wind is moanin’ in the trees,
when the waves crash onto the beach,
indications of the season are each.
When the sun disn’t seem to rise,
when blue isn’t the colour of the sky,
when fog horns try to pierce the gloom,
and car headlights have an eery bloom.
When folk gan out aal wrapped up,
when the beer is tee cauld to sup,
when salad’s off in favour of soup,
and aal the flowers have started to droop.
Then we naa tha’ Christmas is getting’ near,
then we’ll taak of maybe a white one this year,
then we suffer crass Halloween customs,
a reminder, howld on it’s only autumn.
